All-in
on EVs.

Electric vehicles are coming to Virginia — Lightning fast.

Virginia’s franchised new car and truck dealers are all-in on electric vehicles. Over the next few years, these local businesses will have dozens of new and affordable all-electric models available. With the proper infrastructure and incentives in place, Virginia is poised to become a leader in the coming transportation revolution. Utilizing the dealership network—with more than 450 new car stores in Virginia employing 65,000 skilled workers in sales, service, and management—is the best way to get these vehicles onto the road and into the mass market.

CATCH THE CAR?

If you saw it on Virginia’s roadways, you’ve seen one of the many new electric vehicles currently available or coming soon from Virginia’s auto dealers. That particular vehicle is a Volkswagen ID.4, named by independent journalists as the 2021 World Car of the Year. It is entirely battery-operated and uses no gasoline, only electricity. It has an estimated range (equivalent to mileage in gas-powered cars) of 260 miles before you need to charge it up. That’s similar to the specs you’ll find in other EVs, many of which we outline below.

The auto industry will invest more than $330 billion by 2025 to reach the goal of an electrified future.

Here’s where you can find a franchised Virginia auto dealer.

While electric and hybrid vehicles have been around for more than a decade, only now will consumers begin to see EVs that boast greater range (mileage), larger size, and better affordability. If you are interested in an EV, or want to understand the models coming available, contact your local dealer. Our map includes all new car and truck dealers in Virginia. Some may have inventory, some may not at this point, but all will be able to answer your questions and help get you in the EV that suits your needs.

Here’s how electric vehicle adoption supports Virginia.

While the environmental benefits (and tradeoffs) of electric vehicles are known, consider the additional positive impacts of the electrification revolution on our Commonwealth.

  • Access.

More than 450 local dealerships provide access to transportation and service for millions of Virginians. There are more than 8 million registered cars in Virginia — most gas powered, and only a fraction of them electric. This presents opportunity for a greener future.

  • Jobs.

Virginia’s dealerships support more than 62,000 jobs and $2 billion in state payroll. EVs present opportunities for new skills (computers vs. motors) and even more jobs and innovative industries. Last year, employees contributed $533 million in state and federal income taxes.

  • Money.

With $22.3 billion in annual sales, Virginia’s franchised new car and truck dealers contributed $956 million in state sales taxes in 2020. Those funds support schools, roads, public services, and more. EVs will generate even more for the Commonwealth’s coffers.
